Trauma and PTSD
Experiencing an overwhelming, life-threatening event can have an impact on how we live our day-to-day lives. Our nervous system favors keeping painful experiences at the forefront of our minds and bodies in an attempt to protect us. However, this normal, human response to traumatic experiences can cause us to feel stuck in our fight/flight/freeze/fawn response, leaving us in a state of fear, worry and anxiety. As Trauma Therapist Janina Fisher, Ph.D. states, “these are all symptoms of your trauma, not symptoms of you.”
Trauma therapy provides you with a safe space to talk about the things that you did not choose to live through. It will be paced and tailored to your own individual readiness. We will work together to uncover parts of yourself that hold skill and wisdom which will guide you on your path toward feeling better. Distressing experiences don’t get to run your life, you do.
I honor your trauma story and am sensitive and accepting to the various and valid experiences of trauma such as physical/sexual trauma, emotional trauma, racial trauma, gender-based trauma, religious/spiritual trauma and complex trauma.
